Over the year I have owned and kept a large variety of animals, ranging from snakes to hermit crabs. I have lost and gained so many, all a part of my journey through the natural world. I am experienced in keeping many kinds of animals, but turtles are a definite kind of animal I will always be keeping. My animals are all shared with a group known as the Connecticut Junior Naturalists, which allows my animals to be rotated out several times a year, allowing me to have ever-changing collections. These are ones I currently own:
Carole, Eastern Painted
Turtle
Gaudi, Red-Eared Slider Turtle
Ruby, Northern Red-bellied Cooter Turtle
Seymour, Common Snapping
Turtle
Sheldon, Red-Eared
Slider Turtle
On their way…
While
I currently have only undomesticated and wild animals, I have very big plans to
turn my home into something so much more, a backyard farm and sustainability
center. The first step in this was choosing a kind of small animal, and that
kind of animal is ducks. We have ordered 6, scheduled to arrive in late April.
Check back for a countdown calendar!
